Yorkshire Ambulance Service Care Homes Project 2014/15

Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust is currently working closely with care homes to identify how we can support and reduce the number of calls to our 999 service that may be more appropriately dealt with by GPs, nurses or community services.

The 120 care homes which most frequently use 999 have been identified in each area and meetings will take place over 2014/15 with the vast majority to discuss the 999 calls, reasons for those calls and provide information about how to determine the most appropriate response for patients. The visits are also being used to establish any support which may be required and identify best practice that can be shared with other care homes.

A series of resources has been produced to help care homes in their decision-making process so the most appropriate response can be provided for patients, examples of which can be found in the links below or as specific documents. Care homes are welcome to use these links
