Annual Performance Ratings 2008-09

15 October 2009

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) - the independent regulator of health and social care services in England - has today (15 October 2009) published the annual performance ratings for all NHS organisations in England.  Two main areas are evaluated - how effectively an organisation manages its finances and the quality of its services.

In the ratings Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) received an overall assessment of ‘Good’ for ‘Quality of Financial Management’ and ‘Weak’ for ‘Quality of Services’ for the period April 2008-March 2009.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust has published action plans following the annual performance ratings 2008-09.

Martyn Pritchard, Chief Executive of YAS, said: “For the second year running, YAS has improved its rating for ‘Quality of Financial Management’ and this reflects better management of our finances and governance arrangements.

“Due to the tougher A&E response measurements introduced last year, the improvements we have made more recently are not reflected in the 2008-09 outcome for ‘Quality of Services’.  However, we are currently preparing our mid-year declaration to the CQC for 2009-10 and the improvements we have made will be clearly demonstrated.

“The real progress made by the Trust is evidenced by two recent CQC inspections, one for cleanliness and the other of four core standards which included clinical training. The CQC confirmed YAS is taking all the necessary steps to prevent Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI) in vehicles and on equipment and verified that sufficient evidence was provided to meet the requirements of the core standards they inspected.

“Providing high quality clinical care to our patients remains our key priority and we are committed to making further improvements to our service.”
