Appreciation for Yorkshire Ambulance Service's Contribution to the Success of the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games

03 December 2012

Attendees at this week’s Trust Board meeting held in public in Harrogate heard from South Yorkshire’s Head of A&E Operations Steve Rendi about the contribution that Yorkshire Ambulance Service staff made to the success of this summer’s London Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Steve led a 28-strong team from the Trust who volunteered for secondments with London Ambulance Service to help the millions of spectators who visited the London Games. Frontline clinicians and staff from emergency operations centres and support services across the region made up part of the 440 NHS ambulance staff who provided emergency assistance at Games venues and fringe events. Appreciation for the contribution of the Yorkshire staff was marked with the presentation of a certificate of thanks from London Ambulance Service.

Commenting, Yorkshire Ambulance Service Chairman Della Cannings said: “We are extremely proud of the contribution made by Yorkshire-based staff to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the work they did to help keep spectators and competitors safe across all the London sporting venues.”

Amongst the attendees was a Leeds resident who came along to the meeting by bus especially to pass on her personal thanks to the Trust for the care given to her and her husband by Yorkshire Ambulance Service staff following a recent incident.

The meeting also highlighted how the Trust is progressing its Foundation Trust application with approvals from the Board for the Foundation Trust Constitution, Stakeholder Communications and Engagement Strategy and Board Development Plan.

The Trust Board meeting was followed by a fact-finding event for residents in Harrogate and the surrounding area who had the opportunity to learn more about their local ambulance service and sign up as public members to work with the organisation to help shape and develop local health services.

The next Trust Board meeting to be held in public will take place on Tuesday 29 January 2013 at The Carlton Park Hotel in Rotherham.
