Ambulance Service Opens its Doors to Members of the Public

Members of the public are being given the chance to take a closer look at their local ambulance service at an open house event held by Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

The event, which will provide an opportunity for people to meet with a range of staff including members of the Trust Board and frontline clinicians, will be held from 8.30am to 9.00am on Tuesday 24 September 2013 at Cutlers’ Hall, Church Street, Sheffield.

Angela Harris, Lead Nurse for Urgent Care at Yorkshire Ambulance Service, will deliver a presentation from 9.00am to 9.30am on the Improving End-of-Life Care.

The Trust’s Annual General Meeting, which will begin at 9.30am and last for approximately one hour, will then highlight the ambulance service’s achievements during 2012-13, will detail its plans for the future and will formally present the annual report and accounts for this period.

This will be followed by the Trust Board Meeting in public which will begin at 10.45am and finish at 2.00pm.

David Whiting, Chief Executive of Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust, said: “Members of the public are very welcome to come along and find out more about what we do, ask us questions and share their ideas.

“As we continue our journey towards becoming a Foundation Trust, the involvement of patients, carers, and residents across the region is a priority for us and helps us to shape our services for the future.”

The Foundation Trust team will also be at the event to answer any questions about membership and becoming a Governor.

  1. The Trust Board is legally responsible for the leadership, direction, control and risk management of the Trust and its main responsibilities include:
    • setting the strategic aims of Yorkshire Ambulance Service in order to meet organisational objectives and review management performance
    • setting the Trust’s values and standards to ensure its obligations to patients, the local community and the Secretary of State are understood and met
    • active leadership of the Trust which enables risks to be assessed and managed
    • working in partnership with key stakeholders and being ambassadors in promoting the success of the Trust.

    The Trust Board meets in public every two months which ensures that the Board’s decision-making process is open and transparent. In addition, the Board meets at least once a month to develop ideas, look at the greater detail of issues and undertake further work.
