Trust Seeks Designate Non-Executive Director

14 August 2013

Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust is looking to appoint a designate non-executive director to serve on its Trust Board.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an individual to share their talents and expertise to make a positive difference to the lives of people living in Yorkshire.

As the region’s ambulance service, we cover almost 6,000 square miles of varied terrain from isolated moors and dales to urban areas, coastline and inner cities. We employ over 4,600 staff who provide 24-hour emergency and healthcare services to a population of more than five million people.

The Trust is looking for an individual with a genuine commitment to the needs of patients and to the promotion of excellent health care services. Potential candidates must have current or recent senior level finance experience gained in a commercial environment at director, finance director or chief executive level, ideally with a recognised finance qualification. Candidates must also live in Yorkshire.

A designate non-executive director will make a full contribution to the Board’s debates and discussions but will have no voting rights until this post is confirmed on authorisation of the organisation becoming a Foundation Trust.

Following the Trust’s authorisation as an NHS Foundation Trust, any designate non-executive director appointment may be recommended to the Trust’s governors for appointment as a full non-executive director.

Della Cannings, Chairman of the Trust, said: “Our non-executive directors oversee the delivery of ambulance services for the local community and help to ensure the best use of financial resources to maximise benefits for patients. They also contribute to plans to improve and develop services.

“We have a high regard for the work carried out by non-executive directors and their valuable contribution helps to ensure we provide the best quality ambulance service to meet the needs of local people.”

A non-executive director is accountable to the Secretary of State. They are expected to hold the executive to account, use their skills and experience to help the Board as it develops health strategies, and ensure the delivery of high quality services to patients. They are lay people drawn from the community served by the Trust.

The other Yorkshire Ambulance Service non-executive directors are Pat Drake, Elaine Bond, Erfana Mahmood, Barrie Senior and Mary Wareing.
