31 Attendees at Inaugural YAS Forum Meeting

09 July 2014

Della Cannings QPM, Chairman of Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) NHS Trust yesterday (Tuesday 8 July 2014)  welcomed YAS Forum Members to their inaugural Meeting at the Holiday Inn, Dodworth, Barnsley  where 31 attendees, including Members of the Trust Board, discussed the role of the Forum and how it will help to develop services.

Made up of 17 elected (13 public and 4 staff) and 5 appointed Members, the YAS Forum has been formed to represent the interests of YAS Membership, the public, staff and the wide range of external stakeholders with which the Trust works to deliver its services, and feedback information about the Trust’s developments to these groups.

YAS Forum Members

Ms Cannings commented:
“The Forum is an idea developed by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service Trust Board to represent the Trust’s 11,000 Members across Yorkshire and the Humber and give people the opportunity to be involved in the development of future services in an open, accountable and transparent way.  We encourage anyone over 16 years of age living in the Trust area to become a YAS Member.

“We believe that this is the first initiative of this kind for an NHS Trust in England and are very much looking forward to listening to the views of Forum Members and working with them to help shape future services at the Trust to ensure they meet the needs of local communities.”

At their first meeting, Forum Members discussed patient and public engagement and how the Forum will work with the Trust, its Membership, patients’ representatives in the community and its wide range of stakeholders to develop future patient services.

To welcome YAS Forum Members and provide them with a better understanding of how Yorkshire Ambulance Service operates both strategically and operationally, they have been given the opportunity to meet the Chairman and other members of the Trust Board and visit the Trust’s Emergency Operations and NHS 111 Call Centres over the last few weeks.

To join as a Member of Yorkshire Ambulance Service you must be over 16 years of age and live in the area served by the Trust: http://www.yas.nhs.uk/foundationtrust/d_Become_A_Member.html
