Ambulance Trust Board Meeting Agenda in Skipton Highlights Improvements in Operational Performance and Importance of Patient Dignity

31 March 2014

Attendees at the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust Board meeting held in public in Skipton (Tuesday 25 March 2014) were provided with an overview of developments at the Trust, including improvements in operational performance, plans for 2014/15 and a focus on the importance of patient dignity.

A presentation on ‘Dignity in Action at Yorkshire Ambulance Service’ outlined how staff put patient dignity at the heart of everything they do through the Trust’s Dignity Code and how this essential element of patient care and experience is assessed.

The Trust continues to achieve the national response standards for its emergency service. Latest figures for the year-to-date (up to the end of February 2014) show that emergency ambulances reached 75.41% of the most seriously ill and injured patients within 8 minutes and 97.31% within 19 minutes (the national response standards are 75% and 95% respectively).  The NHS 111 service also continues to deliver some of the best care in the country.

All contracts for the 2014/15 financial year have now been agreed with commissioners, including some PTS contracts with an extended period of up to three years where confidence has grown in the recent improvements made to the service.

Commenting, Yorkshire Ambulance Service Chairman Della Cannings QPM, said:
“Despite the challenges of the last year, our staff have continued to provide the very best care to our patients across the region and we know from patient feedback how grateful they are for the high quality services they receive.

“We are committed to making further improvements and are doing all that we can to enhance patient care further.”

The next Trust Board meeting to be held in public will take place on:

  • Tuesday 20 May 2014 - Tankersley Manor Hotel, Tankersley, South Yorkshire
