Ambulance Trust Board Meeting in South Yorkshire

Attendees at the Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) NHS Trust Board meeting held in public in Tankersley, South Yorkshire (Tuesday 20 May 2014) were provided with an overview of developments at the Trust, including the introduction of a new YAS Forum and the updated Foundation Trust Constitution.

Prior to the formal meeting, a presentation on ‘Paramedic Pathfinder’ given by Mark Millins, Lead Paramedic for Clinical Development, outlined how this support tool is being used by frontline staff to help them determine the most appropriate care for patients based on their individual needs.

With public and stakeholder engagement continuing to be a key priority for the Trust, Chairman Della Cannings QPM confirmed that the elections for YAS Forum Members had taken place during April and the beginning of May.  She thanked all those who had put themselves forward for election and congratulated successful candidates who had accepted their positions on the newly-formed group that will represent local people and organisations.

The YAS Forum is aimed at helping the Trust to be Foundation Trust-ready and is structured with a total of 22 Members: ten Public elected, four Staff and five Appointed Forum Members who will represent the wide range of external stakeholders with whom the Trust works in partnership to deliver services.

Commenting, Della Cannings QPM, said:
“Providing the best patient care remains the most important focus for us and we welcome the support of YAS Forum Members to help us understand more about our services from their perspective.

“On behalf of the Trust Board I would like to offer warm congratulations to the successful candidates and welcome them to the Trust to help us develop our services to best meet the needs of patients and the communities they represent. 

“We will be providing Forum Members with information on how Yorkshire Ambulance Service operates both strategically and operationally and they will have the opportunity to meet myself and other members of the Trust Board at induction sessions in May and June. They will also be visiting our busy Emergency Operations Centre and NHS 111 Call Centres to see for themselves how calls are handled.”

The inaugural YAS Forum Meeting will take place on Tuesday 8 July 2014 in Barnsley where there will be members of the Trust Board present.

The next Trust Board Meetings to be held in public will take place as follows

  • Tuesday 3 June 2014 (11.00am - 12.30am) at Trust Headquarters, Wakefield WF2 0XQ - Extraordinary Trust Board Meeting in Public to receive the Annual Report including the Annual Accounts 2013/14,Quality Accounts and Annual Governance Statement 2013/14
  • Tuesday 22 July 2014 (11.00am - 2.30pm) at the Mercure Hotel, Hull, HU1 3UF
