Day 2 - Tour de France Grand Depart

06 July 2014

Alan Baranowski, Associate Director at Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust, has been overseeing the service’s operations this weekend.

He said: “I would like to say a big thank you to everyone at YAS for a job well done this weekend and I expect that, like me, they are all extremely proud to have been involved in this unique and momentous event.

“The event has not just been a success for Yorkshire, but for Yorkshire Ambulance Service too and we are delighted that the many months of planning and preparations have paid off.

“Our aim was to ensure that this high profile event was celebrated in true Yorkshire style and enjoyed by all and that it did not impact upon our ability to provide responsive emergency care as it passed through the county. We have very much achieved this.

“The service has been kept very busy throughout the weekend but our contingency plans held up and we maintained a safe and responsive service as the public of Yorkshire and visitors to the region celebrated in true Yorkshire style.

“We couldn’t have achieved this without the dedication and support of all of our staff, volunteers, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and our neighboring ambulance services colleagues; together we have joined forces to form our very own winning team!

“We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the race organisers, local authorities and partner agencies who we have worked closely with in the run up to the event to make the Tour De France Grand Depart a remarkable weekend to remember.

“We wish our colleagues at East of England Ambulance Service all the best as Le Tour moves south and we say au revoir to the world’s greatest cycling race!”
