Tour de France Grand Depart - First Day Overview

05 July 2014

Alan Baranowski, Associate Director at Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust, has been overseeing the service’s operations today.

He said: “I would like to thank our own staff and dedicated volunteers for a job well done today and expect that, like me, they are extremely proud to have been involved in what is proving to be a momentous event for Yorkshire.

“The service has been kept very busy today and we expect this to continue into this evening and throughout tomorrow as people continue to enjoy the Tour de France Grand Depart.

“We have maintained a responsive service across Yorkshire today and our contingency plans will remain in place to ensure that this continues throughout the weekend’s events.

“To help ensure that we continue to reach patients calling us for help, we ask that people dial 999 responsibly and consider our NHS 111 service for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries.

“There has been minimal disruption as a result of the industrial action taken by a small number of Unite the Union members.”
