Clinical Excellence Highlighted at Ambulance Trust Board Meeting

29 May 2015

The region’s ambulance service highlighted clinical excellence at its Trust Board Meeting held in public this week in Bradford.

A presentation entitled Our Journey to Clinical Excellence was made to attendees by Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust’s Associate Director of Quality and Nursing Karen Warner and Associate Medical Director Dr Steven Dykes. It described developments at the Trust to ensure patients continue to be provided with safe, responsive, appropriate and effective care for their needs. In addition, the Trust Board approved the Clinical Quality Strategy 2015-18 which has the key aims of providing fully-integrated emergency and urgent care, treating more patients at home and a focus on continuous improvement to provide world class care.

Chaired by Ms Della M Cannings QPM, the meeting was held at The Bradford Hotel in Bradford. The bi-monthly meetings regularly move around the region so that residents have the opportunity to come and see the Board working, meet the Board members and ask any questions they may have.

The agenda also covered a patient story and updates on the Trust’s performance, challenges and key developments, including the continuing improvement in emergency ambulance response times.

Approval was given to the Resilience and Special Operations Annual Report 2014-15 which outlines the Trust’s emergency preparedness response as a Category 1 Responder under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 and assures the Trust Board of the robust measures in place. The Resilience and Special Services Team was also commended for achieving certification of the ISO 22301 standard for Business Continuity Management Systems for its own operations and those of the Emergency Operations Centre, Patient Transport Service, NHS 111 and ICT departments.

In addition, the Trust Board approved the Employee Wellbeing Strategy which has been developed by members of the newly-formed Employee Wellbeing Group. It sets out the Trust’s commitment to providing services and support mechanisms for staff to maintain and improve their wellbeing.

The Trust Board formally congratulated Rod Barnes and Dr David Macklin on their permanent appointments as Chief Executive and Executive Director of Operations respectively.

The next Trust Board Meeting to be held in public will take place on Tuesday 28 July 2015 at The Garden Rooms, Tennants, Leyburn DL8 5SG.
