24 June 2016

Over 1,100 people stop by free Scarborough event

Aberdeen Walk in Scarborough was turned into a blue light zone last week as the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust's (YAS) Summer Roadshow came to town.

Over 1,100 Scarborough residents and holidaymakers alike were invited to come along to the free event where the YAS Team were on hand to offer free first aid training including life-saving cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

The event offered local people and day trippers the chance to have a look inside a YAS ambulance and to find out more about the Trust's services including what goes on behind the scenes when a 999 call is made. Visitors also got to find out more about the Trust's Life Cycle scheme from Paramedic, Julie Clayton and have a look around a rapid response vehicle (RRV) with Paramedic, Mark Wright.

Free activities for children were on offer along with information on volunteering or working for the ambulance service and the Trust's Charitable Fund mascot, ParaTed, also made a guest appearance.

The event is part of a programme of summer roadshows which will see the Trust visit Scarborough again at the end of the summer school holidays as well as holding events further afield including Bradford, Leeds, Hull and Sheffield.

Ali Richardson, Foundation Trust Membership Manager, said, "We had a fabulous time at the roadshow and we are thrilled that over 1,100 people stopped by to brush up on their first aid skills or to learn more about the ambulance service. We'd like to thank everyone who came along and we're looking forward to visiting Scarborough again later in the summer."
