Pay Gap Information
Pay gaps refer to the difference in average earnings between different groups of employees, commonly measured across gender, ethnicity, and disability. These gaps do not necessarily indicate unequal pay for the same work (which is illegal under equal pay laws) but highlight broader disparities in representation, progression, and pay across the workforce.
- Gender pay gap: The difference in average pay between men and women, often influenced by factors such as career breaks, part-time work, and underrepresentation of women in senior roles.
- Ethnicity pay gap: The disparity in pay between employees of different ethnic backgrounds, often reflecting barriers to career progression, discrimination, or occupational segregation.
- Disability pay gap: The earnings gap between disabled and non-disabled employees, typically linked to limited workplace adjustments, lower employment rates, and biases in recruitment and promotion.
Addressing these gaps requires systemic changes in hiring, career development, and workplace policies to promote fair pay and equal opportunities for all.
