Adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Definition of Antisemitism

05 December 2025

As part of its support for staff, volunteers and our communities, Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) has adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Definition of Antisemitism.

This is part of our commitment to tackle racism, discrimination, or abuse of any kind and our commitment to creating a workplace where everyone feels safe, valued and supported.

At YAS, all faiths and backgrounds are respected and the diversity, experiences, and uniqueness colleagues bring to our organisations is a source of strength and compassion. The adoption of the definition follows the lead of NHS England and the UK Government and the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).

The definition helps us identify and address antisemitism in contemporary contexts - including the denial of the Holocaust, the use of antisemitic conspiracy theories, or the targeting of Jewish people by using Israel as a proxy. It is also clear that criticism of Israel, comparable to that made against any other country, is not antisemitic.

This ensures we support all colleagues in feeling safe and valued at work and supporting our communities accessing our services.
