Join Restart a Heart Live and become a life-saver
18 September 2025

Yorkshire Ambulance Service is urging the public to become life-savers by signing up for a free 20-minute training event on Wednesday 1 October.
The Restart a Heart Live event is online, inclusive CPR and defibrillator training that anyone can attend, and no equipment is required.
Training sessions will be repeated hourly from 9am until 9pm. The 10am and 11am sessions will be particularly suited to primary school aged children (5-11yrs). Later sessions will be aimed at the wider public. Those who can’t make it onto the livestream, can still register and get access to a recording of the session to watch and use later.
Jason Carlyon, Community Engagement Manager with Yorkshire Ambulance Service, said: “We attended over 11,000 out of hospital cardiac arrest in 2024. If that person doesn’t receive CPR, the likelihood of them surviving drops by 10% for every minute CPR isn’t administered. We want to empower the public to be confident in their CPR skills and help build a nation of life-savers.
“Through Restart a Heart Live, we are aiming to train one million people in the UK how to do hands-only CPR and use a defibrillator by 2027. So, join us on Wednesday 1 October to support your community and become one of a million life-savers.”
Hosted by the Scottish Ambulance Service, in partnership with Save a Life for Scotland, Save a Life Cymru, Resuscitation Council UK, and the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives, the event last year smashed a Guinness World Record with over 5,000 members of the public tuning in. This year the hosts are taking the event nationwide and are hoping to build on the number of people learning life-saving skills.
The event is being held as Yorkshire Ambulance Service makes its final preparations to visit 179 secondary schools across Yorkshire to teach CPR to more than 40,000 students on Restart a Heart Day (16 October 2025). The event is possible thanks to more than 700 volunteers, mainly off-duty ambulance staff and community first responders, who give up their own time to pass on their life-saving skills to young people.
