Prime-time BBC TV series Ambulance showcases the remarkable work of Yorkshire Ambulance Service

20 October 2025

The BBC documentary series Ambulance returns to television screens this week and will showcase the remarkable work of emergency ambulance crews and control room staff in Yorkshire.

The 15th series of the BAFTA award-winning programmes will feature six episodes which will be broadcast weekly from Tuesday 21 October 2025 at 9pm on BBC One. The shows, produced by Dragonfly Film and TV, part of Banijay UK, will capture the relentless pressures facing frontline emergency ambulance crews as they navigate England’s largest county, from bustling cities and towns to seaside communities and remote villages in the Yorkshire Dales.

Set against the backdrop of a historically high demand on the NHS, the series reveals powerful stories of humanity, resilience, humour and courage on the frontline of emergency care. Viewers will be able to witness the challenges staff face every day as they respond to 999 calls and see the intensity of the emergency operations centre (control room) as call handlers speak to distressed people and ambulance dispatchers make difficult decisions about allocating resources to those in need of assistance.

Ambulance provides a 360-degree portrait of Yorkshire Ambulance Service’s efforts to respond as quickly as possible to 999 emergency calls from a region spanning nearly 6,000 square miles. Each episode reveals the reality of serving more than 5 million people in Yorkshire and the difficulties that come with caring for people across the varied landscape.

Filmed across winter and spring of 2025, this series captures the pressures on the NHS and the wide variety of incidents Yorkshire Ambulance Service responds to. Each programme demonstrates the highest standards of care and compassion, the power of caring for others and reminds everyone how humanity can shine brightest in the toughest of times.

Over the 12 weeks of filming, Yorkshire Ambulance Service handled 283,300 emergency 999 calls and attended more than 177,730 incidents.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service Chief Executive Peter Reading said: “We are delighted that this documentary series will provide viewers with a snapshot of just some of our extraordinary staff and volunteers who care for patients across Yorkshire 24/7. We’d like to thank all of our patients, staff, volunteers and partners who allowed cameras to film them behind the scenes.”

Simon Ford, Executive Producer of BBC Ambulance, said: “We were excited to finally get to film our series in Yorkshire; the welcome we received across the entire YAS family blew us away and now the programmes are made we can’t wait to share the dramatic, gripping and heartwarming stories of the patients and staff we have filmed with the rest of the country.
