Yorkshire Ambulance Service rises up the Top Apprenticeship Employers’ rankings

18 July 2025

Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust (YAS) has retained and improved its Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer status in the 2025 rankings, which celebrates England’s outstanding apprenticeship employers. The Trust has been placed 12th overall – a significant rise from last year’s 23rd and 2023’s 36th places.

The rankings are produced annually by The Sunday Times which independently assesses and ranks the nation’s top apprenticeship employers.

YAS has been recognised for its continued commitment to the use and growth of apprenticeship schemes to develop core skills and workforce roles. In 2024/25 the Trust saw the introduction of the Enhanced Clinical Practitioner Programme (Level 6) to develop Specialist Paramedics with 43 now enrolled, and a Team Leader Apprenticeship at Level 3 to support the Integrated Urgent Care service to strengthen its management capability.

The Trust offers a wide range of programmes, from Level 2 through to Level 7, and enrolment is spread across new recruits and existing staff development.  Apprentices make up around 10% of staff and, throughout the last year, numbers increased from under 600 to over 700 apprentices, with more apprenticeships planned in new roles over the upcoming year.

YAS joins two other ambulance services in the Top 100 – London in 3rd place and North West in 27th place.

Dawn Adams,Associate Director of People Development, said: “We are delighted to feature again in the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers for the third year running. Being in the Top 100 reflects the scale of our apprenticeship provision, which provides opportunities to new and existing staff across a broad range of subjects and levels. Around 1 in 10 of our staff are currently on apprenticeships, which is a great achievement. The ranking is recognition of the hard work that goes on across the Trust to deliver and support a wide variety of apprenticeships.”
