Organ Donation Week

23 September 2022

Organ Donation Week

In 2021-22 more than 4000 people had their lives transformed by an organ transplant. People could go on holiday, play with their children and come off dialysis all thanks to organ donors and their families giving the gift of life.

Today, there are around 7,000 people waiting for a life changing transplant. This includes more than 200 children. Only a very small number of people are able to become organ donors, which is why every potential donor is so precious. And sadly, someone in the UK dies every day waiting for the gift of life.

To mark Organ Donation Week (26 September to 2 October 2022), Yorkshire Ambulance Service is joining NHS Blood and Transplant to urge families to sign up to the NHS Organ Donor Register.

Adding your name and decision to the NHS Organ Donor Register is the best way to record your decision. Your family will be expected to support what you have decided, so you should also tell them what you want. Adults and children can each save up to nine lives by being an organ donor and improve many more lives by donating tissue too.

Show your support by pledging to record your decision this Organ Donation Week by visiting https://www.organdonation.nhs.uk/
