Road Safety Week

11 November 2022

In 2021-22, we responded to 7,606 road traffic accidents across Yorkshire – that’s an average of 20 accidents every single day.

We are supporting national Road Safety Week (14-20 November 2022) to highlight the preventable deaths and injuries on UK roads.

An average of five people die every day on the UK’s roads and road crashes are the leading cause of death for children and young people worldwide.

We are using the week-long event to highlight:

  • The importance of the #What3Words geographical location app so we can identify the location of accidents as quickly as possible and make sure help is on its way
  • Advice from Blue Light Aware for road users who come across our ambulances and other emergency service vehicles driving on blue lights
  • The dangers of mobile phone use while at the wheel, drink driving, drug driving and the impact of not wearing a seatbelt.

Further information is available on the Brake website and the THINK! website which has been delivering road safety campaigns since 2000.
