National Apprenticeship Week 2024

02 February 2024

A variety of Yorkshire Ambulance Service apprentices

To mark National Apprenticeship Week (5-11 February 2024), we are celebrating the achievements of our award-winning apprenticeship programme!

We currently have 645 apprentices in both clinical roles and corporate services which accounts for 9.7% of our workforce.

Our programme is currently the top-rated NHS trust in England at number 36 of the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers, a list produced annually by the Department for Education. It was also assessed as good with outstanding features, following a full Ofsted inspection last year.

Kim Walsh, Apprenticeships Manager, said: “We are incredibly proud of our apprenticeship programme and National Apprenticeship Week is the perfect opportunity to showcase the achievements of our many apprentices in a variety of roles across the organisation.”

A total of 616 of our apprentices are clinical and there are three core apprenticeships that make up the pathway to paramedic, starting the journey as a level 3 ambulance support worker apprentice, before progressing to a level 4 associate ambulance practitioner apprenticeship before completing the level 6 paramedic degree apprenticeship.

Non-clinical apprenticeships are in departments such as finance, business planning, Patient Transport Service, administrative and reception services, ICT, learning and development, estates, operational support – and many more. We currently have 29 apprentices in non-clinical roles.
