Skilled Motor Vehicle Mechanic

As a skilled motor vehicle mechanic, you will be working under the supervision of the area team leader to ensure that all motor vehicle repairs and services are completed accurately, efficiently and within MOT standards. You will be responsible for the servicing, repair and preventative maintenance of all vehicles owned or operated by the Trust, including A&E ambulances and PTS vehicles.

You will diagnose faults in vehicles and decide on the extent of the work required, making informed decisions as to the repair or replacement of faulty units. Additionally you may be required to participate in the provision of a 24-hour breakdown/recovery service with appropriate time off the following day.

Essential requirements

  • Qualified to HNC/BTEC or City & Guilds in mechanical/electrical maintenance and repair or able to demonstrate the equivalent level of technical knowledge and experience gained through post apprenticeship training or similar
  • Full UK driving licence (including Full C1 licence) and able to meet the Trust requirement of no more than three penalty points
  • Ability to work alone and deal with a number of issues in accordance with written procedures using your initiative
