New Associate Medical Director for Critical Care appointed

Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) has welcomed Dr Daniel Sedgewick as its new Associate Medical Director for Critical Care. 

Daniel began his NHS career as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher with East Midlands Ambulance Service before studying medicine at the University of Southampton. 

After qualifying as a doctor, he trained in Emergency Medicine in the Thames Valley and sub-specialised in Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine. He has since held a number of ambulance service roles, including Emergency Operations Centre Doctor, Strategic Medical Advisor and Helicopter Emergency Medical Service Doctor. 

Daniel said: “I’m delighted to have joined Yorkshire Ambulance Service as Associate Medical Director for Critical Care. My NHS career began in an ambulance emergency control room and I have always wanted to return to an ambulance service role where I can help shape and support the delivery of high-quality care for our most critically ill and injured patients. 

“My role is to provide assurance that our critical care services are safe, high-quality and evidence based. I’m looking forward to working with colleagues across YAS and our partner organisations to support our advanced and specialist paramedics, doctors responding to major incidents (including the MERIT team, BASICS doctors) as well as pre-hospital charities.” 

In addition to overseeing the Trust’s critical care provision, Daniel is responsible for YAS’s medical student programmes. He also provides medical support to the Trust’s research team and guidance to doctors across the region who wish to pursue a career in Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine.

“Daniel’s leadership will help us to maintain safe, evidence-based critical care and further strengthen the high-quality treatment we provide to patients with the most serious and life-threatening illnesses and injuries.” 

Before joining YAS in July 2026, Daniel was Clinical Director for Emergency Medicine at Milton Keynes Hospital and a pre-hospital consultant with Thames Valley Air Ambulance. He currently divides his time between YAS and his role as Medical Director of LIVES, a Lincolnshire-based pre-hospital emergency medical charity.
