Appointment of new Chief Digital Information Officer for Yorkshire Ambulance Service

16 April 2024

Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) has appointed Sam Robinson to the role of Chief Digital Information Officer (CDIO) following the recent retirement of Simon Marsh, the previous post-holder.

Sam will be joining YAS in June from NHS England, where she is currently Associate Director for Live Services.

The CDIO leads the Trust’s information technology and business intelligence teams.

Speaking of her appointment, Sam said: “I am absolutely delighted to be taking up the role of CDIO with YAS.  I’m looking forward to ensuring technology and data play an important role in delivering the Trust’s recently launched five-year strategy, enabling teams at YAS to deliver great patient care.

“Through my most recent role at NHS Digital (now NHS England), I am responsible for ensuring critical national infrastructure and digital services that support the wider NHS are highly available and well run, and this experience of running national systems will be incredibly valuable in my role at YAS.”

Peter Reading, Chief Executive at YAS, said: “We look forward to welcoming Sam when she joins us in a few months to lead on digital technology and business intelligence services.  Sam’s knowledge, skills and experience will be essential to ensure we have the right support and systems in place to deliver our new five-year strategy for our communities.”

Ms Robinson has worked in health information technology for almost 20 years across Yorkshire and the Humber, in the NHS, public and private organisations, including Yorkshire and Humber Strategic Health Authority, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and with Leeds-based technology organisation Answer Digital.  She is a board member of Women in Leeds Digital (WILD), aimed at bringing more diversity into technology roles, as well as a trustee for the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund charity.
