Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers 2024 success for region’s ambulance service
02 August 2024
Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust (YAS) has retained its Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer status in the 2024 rankings, which celebrates England’s outstanding apprenticeship employers. The Trust has been placed 23rd overall – a significant rise from last year’s 36th place.
The rankings are produced annually by the Department for Education, in partnership with High Fliers Research, which independently assesses and ranks the nation’s top apprenticeship employers.
YAS has been recognised for its commitment to creating new apprenticeships, the diversity of its apprentices, and the number of apprentices who successfully achieve their apprenticeships. YAS also joins four other ambulance services in the Top 100, three of which are in the Northern Ambulance Alliance.
Tony Spence, Head of YAS Academy (Interim), said: “I am incredibly proud of our position in the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers. We have risen up the table because of the commitment, dedication and hard work of all the apprentices at YAS and all those in the Trust who support them. It is through the determination of those learners who go above and beyond to excel in their learning, and in the roles they carry out, that gives the Trust the recognition as an outstanding employer.
“We are committed to supporting all staff and will continue to develop opportunities and support across all service lines in the Trust.”
The Trust currently has 679 apprentices in both clinical roles and corporate services, which accounts for 9.5% of its workforce.
A total of 646 of its apprentices are clinical and there are three core apprenticeships that make up the pathway to Paramedic, starting the journey as a Level 3 Ambulance Support Worker apprentice, progressing to a Level 4 Associate Ambulance Practitioner apprentice, before completing the Level 6 Paramedic Degree apprenticeship.
Non-clinical apprenticeships are in departments such as finance, business planning, Patient Transport Service, administrative and reception services, information, communications and technology, learning and development, estates, operational support, and more. There are currently 33 apprentices in non-clinical roles at YAS.
