Yorkshire Ambulance Service representatives Jackie Cole, Associate Chief Operating Officer, and Tony Spence, Head of YAS Academy (Interim), receive the Health and Science Apprenticeship Provider of the Year award

Yorkshire Ambulance Service has been named the Health and Science Apprenticeship Provider of the Year in the national Annual Apprenticeship Conference Apprenticeship Awards 2024.

Jackie Cole, Associate Chief Operating Officer, and Tony Spence, Head of YAS Academy (Interim) received the top award at a ceremony on Tuesday at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham.

The accolade recognises our employer provider career development pathway to paramedic and our overall commitment to using apprenticeships to support the professional development of our staff.

Tony said: “The award recognises the whole YAS team effort in ensuring we provide the best possible experience for our learners, our staff and ultimately the patients they serve. Everyone in the Trust should feel really proud of this achievement. It really does pay testament to what can be achieved and how teamwork can really contribute to organisational improvement and success.

“I am exceptionally proud for YAS be recognised, not just amongst other health organisations, but nationally and across the whole apprenticeships education sector, it is such an honour for the Trust.”

Kim Walsh, Apprenticeship Manager, added: “It is excellent for YAS to be recognised for our excellence as an apprenticeship provider. This is a great reflection of the hard work of all those who contribute to the delivery of our apprenticeship training and those who support our apprentices.”

Our apprentice programme is currently the top-rated NHS trust in England at number 36 of the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers, a list produced annually by the Department for Education. It was also assessed as 'Good with Outstanding Features', following a full Ofsted inspection in 2023.
