Non-executive Director and Associate Non-executive Director opportunities at Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust

01 November 2024

The region’s ambulance service is looking to appoint one Non-executive Director (NED) and up to two Associate Non-executive Directors.

NEDs make a full contribution to the Board’s debates and discussions, bringing independence, external perspectives, skill and challenge to strategy development.  This is an exceptional opportunity for the successful candidate to share their talents and expertise to make a positive difference to the lives of colleagues and people served by the Trust.

The Associate NED role is used successfully in the NHS to support Board succession planning and to achieve a balance of Board level skills. Whilst Associate NEDs cannot participate in any formal votes at Board, their views and perspectives are a welcome contribution, particularly on the impact of the Trust’s decisions on its patients. The successful candidates for the Associate role will be appointed by the Trust, but may also be considered for appointment as a full NED of the Board in future (within two years from initial appointment) should a vacancy arise, and they meet the essential criteria.

The Trust is particularly interested in candidates who can bring senior or Board-level professional experience and/or lived experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Clinical services, especially in an urgent and emergency care context.
  • Workforce, workplace culture, and organisational development.
  • Social care, local authority services, voluntary/charitable sector services.
  • Health and care technology/digital transformation.

In addition, the Trust believes that the diversity of its Board should reflect the communities it serves and particularly welcomes applications from under-represented groups.

Applicants will also need to demonstrate a genuine commitment to patient care, patient experience, and the promotion of excellent health care services.  They should ideally live or work in Yorkshire, or within reasonable travelling distance of Yorkshire, or have strong connections with the area and its communities.

The closing date for applications is Wednesday 20 November 2024 at 11.00am, with interviews scheduled to take place on Tuesday 10 December 2024.

The other YAS Non-executive Directors are currently Anne Cooper (Deputy Chair), Tim Gilpin (Senior Independent Director), Jeremy Pease, Andrew Chang, and Amanda Moat, and the NeXT Director is Rebecca Randell. The Chair is Martin Havenhand.

For more information and to apply for the role of NED or Associate NED, interested candidates should visit the NHS England website.
