Yorkshire Ambulance Service launches new Research Institute

A new Research Institute has been launched by Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust (YAS) to strengthen the organisation’s ambition to lead and deliver ambulance research.

The Trust has a strong track record in delivering high-quality research projects that have changed how ambulance services care for patients, and the new Institute aims to build on these successes.

Recruitment of specialist staff into a number of key research leadership posts supports one of the Trust’s strategic priorities, and the Institute also has a number of key partnerships in place with local NHS Trusts and universities, which have supported the recent expansion.  Through both the new leadership posts and partnerships, the Institute is moving forward with designing and developing new research projects that will have a real-world impact on patients.

The Institute will focus on growing its research portfolio to address the needs of ambulance service patients, working across boundaries to ensure that patients are offered the best, evidence-informed care and benefit the communities that it serves.

Dr Julian Mark, Executive Medical Director at Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust, said: “The research that we do can drive a noticeable difference in patent care - it can improve the quality, safety, efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare. We are proud of our partnership arrangements with local organisations that allow us to co-develop our expertise, and who support our ambition to grow research for the benefit of patients in our care.

“Our Research Institute continues to deliver important research, whilst also developing our staff to be able to lead and direct research that is meaningful for our unique context. It puts us in a position to deliver and carry out research that addresses the needs, priorities and realities of everyday business at Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

“We remain a trusted partner for research and we will continue to work with higher education institutions and NHS provider organisations, as well as welcoming new partnerships.”
